Air Asia Philippines now flying to Hong Kong

AirAsia Philippines, a division of Malaysia based AirAsia Group, launched their inaugural flights to Hong Kong last week, bringing more competition to one of the most popular vacation destinations among Filipinos.

This is not the first time that AirAsia served Hong Kong from the Philippines. Previously, the carrier operated the route from its former hub at Clark International Airport. However, the route was suspended due to low demand and intense competition from other low-cost carriers.

Earlier this year in February, AirAsia Philippines Chief Executive Officer, Joy Caneba revealed that the carrier had been allocated daily flights to Hong Kong. However, the carrier announced last month that it would launch with four flights weekly. Flights are now being operated from Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3 every Monday, Tuesday, Friday and Sunday.

"We are opening the Manila - Hong Kong route as part of our commitment to give passengers especially our Filipino overseas workers and leisure travelers more choices, better value and only the best, quality service at super low fares," Caneba said.

AirAsia Philippines introduced the route with Hong Kong promo fares starting at just Php 888. However, passengers may wish to also consider utilizing AirAsia's new ASEAN Pass, which is now available for sale across the Philippines.

Hong Kong becomes AirAsia Zest's seventh international route from the Philippines. The carrier also serves international destinations including Kuala Lumpur, Kota Kinabalu, Busan, Seoul, Shanghai, and Macau.

According to the Centre for Asia Pacific Aviation, AirAsia remains optimistic about the prospects of its Philippine unit. In the last year, it restructured operations at the carrier, resulting in improved yields and load factor at AirAsia Philippines. AirAsia has been concentrating on international routes, rather than expanding its domestic operations in the Philippines.
