A new domestic airline is preparing to launch into the Philippine skies beginning on June 22, 2013. Fil-Asian Airways hopes to restore the glamour of flying as it brings "The Asian Experience" to travellers in Mindanao, the Visayas, and Manila. The airline will gradually be launching new routes throughout the country over the next three months.

Fil-Asian Airways is the successor of Mid-Sea Express which operated from Cebu Airport utilizing a Jetstream 32 aircraft until 2012. Both Fil-Asian Airways and its predecessor are affiliates of Island Helicopter Services based at Mactan-Cebu. The vision of the airline is to promote and develop the tourism potential of the smaller Philippine islands while maintaining a presence on higher demand routes and destinations. The focus remains on "Bridging the Islands" where the airline targets destinations that are under served or lack any air access. By providing air access on these routes, the airline aims to boost tourist arrivals while providing a faster and convenient option for Filipino citizens and foreign travellers.

In addition to striving to be the airline of choice on short haul routes by providing a safe and comfortable flying experience, Fil-Asian Airways is focusing on introducing another experience for its passengers, "The Asian Experience." This experience is driven by the highest level of customer care based on traditional Asian touches of friendliness, personal pride, company spirit, and of course, a sense of warmth.

Fil-Asian Airways will be picking up a number of routes previously served by Mid-Sea Express. The growing demand realized by the end of the Mid-Sea Express era inspired management at Fil-Asian Airways to plan their return to the Philippine skies in a bigger and more innovative way. The result was a decision to introduce scheduled service to domestic and international destinations serviced by a professional staff that is customer focused in all aspects.

This time around the airline will come back bigger and better starting with the introduction of the 64 seat YS-11 aircraft. The Japanese built turboprop airliner is no stranger to the Philippine skies having been operated most recently by the airline once known as Asian Spirit. Fil-Asian Airways intends to use the larger aircraft to expand cargo and passenger capacity to meet the growing demand on its routes. Aviation enthusiasts will be eager to experience flying on board this Rolls-Royce engine powered aircraft which is one of the last remaining YS-11 aircraft in scheduled airline service. The aircraft is capable of travelling up to 2,200 kilometres at a speed of 454 kilometres per hour.

Fil-Asian Airways will be launching its convenient and affordable air service beginning on June 22, 2013 with service from Manila to the destinations of Tablas and Masbate.

If all preparations go according to plan, passengers can expect to see the following routes launching in the near future:

June 22, 2013
  • Manila to Tablas
  • Manila to Masbate
July 12, 2013
  • Manila to Marinduque
August 12, 2013
  • Cebu to Cotabato
  • Cebu to Tandag
  • Cotabato to Zamboanga
September 13, 2013
  • Cebu to Tagbilaran

According to management, service to Tablas is confirmed to proceed but other destinations and launch dates are subject to change. Fil-Asian Airways plans to offer travellers better value for money. Airfares will include 5kg of check-in luggage for domestic flights and 10kg of luggage for international flights.
