Toying Around Manila: Yexel's Toy Collection

Last time, we were "toying around Manila," we featured the Wow Toy Museum, the country’s first toy museum which fascinated us with its tens of thousands of toys including its miniatures. This time around, we feature Yexel’s Toy Collection…

….or Museum. While it makes up its mind what to call itself, let’s go inside!

“What’s up, Doc?”

These are the “greeters” at the main entrance. The best thing about Yexel’s is that most of its displays are life-sized statues of your favorite childhood comics and cartoon characters. One can’t help but feel giddy and awed standing beside them for a selfie. And that’s the beauty of this museum. You can actually come close to them and even touch the displays (unless you’re a school kid on a field trip, i.e., we were told.)

Next is what I call the Simpsons’ room with “supporting” characters on the side.

You can sit beside Bart (or go upside down as well) and have the most photogenic picture…

while Sheriff Woody looks on and Buzz Lightyear hams it up.

Don’t just settle for browsing the displays. Why not create a game, “Who can name them first?” or “Who can name the most?” with your friends or kids?

Or “Who can name the movie?”

A toy museum nowadays won’t be complete without anime.

“Cowabunga!”

An unusual pairing indeed. It’s always nice to add that Pinoy touch. I guess, in a way, that’s what’s missing at Yexel’s---Pinoy comic characters like Darna, Panday, Zuma, etc.

“Yabba dabba doo!” Hmmm…which reminds me. I don’t remember seeing Scooby Doo….jinkees!

My favorite anime/manga detective, Conan.

Can you hear the theme music? You’d hear it throughout the tour as it serves as its pipe-in music.

Where’s the shawarma?

“That’s all, folks!” (Not with our tour though.)

The tour guide said that for field trips, they have a game for who can name the robots first to get a prize. Can you name them all? Admittedly, I can’t for some but for those that I can, I can even tell you what day and time they were shown! Ooops, my age is slipping….

Well, I still prefer Julie Newmar but I am just thankful it’s not Halle Berry.

The scariest Joker of them all although he doesn't look that scary here. He looks more like he's on his way to a Cosplay convention.

I still prefer the 1960's version.

It’s still Burgess Meredith for me: “Weh, weh weh…” (or something like that).

Yexel’s Toy Museum has two branches: 52 Sampaguita Rd, Las Piñas and Boom na Boom, CCP Complex. The one I went to was at CCP which is why I missed the bust of Optimus Prime. Wah!
