The IOSA covers areas such as flight dispatch, cabin engineering and maintenance, aircraft ground handing, and operational security.  It has been touted as the most 'stringent' of aviation safety standards.

Cebu Pacific has remarked that the carrier has invested in technologies that would better help it manage safety risks.

Passing the IOSA audit is a requirement to become a member of the IATA.  Even if Cebu Pacific is not a member of the IATA, it joins 429 other carriers in the world on that list. Currently, only Philippine Airlines and its sister company Airphil Express are the only other Philippine-based carriers that have also passed the IOSA.

The certification is good for two years, after which carriers have to be reevaluated to retain it.  This means Cebu Pacific is eligible to apply for IATA within the said period.

This is the first major test that Cebu Pacific passed after nearly four years when the European Commission permitted it to mount flights to Europe.  At that time, the organisation has banned most Philippine carriers from flying into the European Union although Philippine Airlines was permitted to resume European flights several months before Cebu Pacific was given permission.
