Philippine Airlines Serves Up In-Flight Internet and Calling

Philippine Airlines has become the first airline to launch commercial flights using the TriaGnoSys in-flight GSMConneX connectivity hardware. The first aircraft retrofitted with the system is one of the airline's new Boeing 777-300ER aircraft. Passengers will now be able to make phone calls and browse the internet while in-flight right from the comfort of their seats.

Philippine Airlines intends to retrofit its entire fleet of Boeing 777 and Airbus A330 aircraft with the GSMConneX system. The system features two small units installed on each aircraft along with wireless access point and a cabin control screen.

The new onboard service referred to as "PAL iN Air" made its debut on a Boeing 777 flight from Manila to Vancouver on July 9, 2013. Ramon Ang, President of Philippine Airlines, says the new service is part of the airline's strategy to provide only the best for its customers. "Allowing our passengers to call and surf the web while flying is another first only a legacy carrier like PAL can offer," said Ang. The GSMConneX hardware is manufactured in Germany.
