Cebu Pacific Boosts Osaka Frequency

Following the successful renegotiation of an air agreement between Japan and the Philippines, Cebu Pacific is moving ahead with its plan to expand capacity to the region. Due to restrictions imposed by the Japanese government, Cebu Pacific has been limited to just three weekly flights between Manila and Osaka. However, that will change in December when Cebu Pacific doubles its flight frequency to Japan with daily flights to Osaka.

Cebu Pacific intends to double its current capacity to Japan on December 20, 2013 as it launches a daily schedule between Manila and Osaka utilizing its Airbus A320 aircraft. The new flights represent a seat capacity increase of 133 percent. Osaka is one of the most popular cities in Japan for tourists and business travellers as one of the primary economic centres of the Kansai region.

"We are proud to offer more low-fare flights to the Kansai region, as we continue with our commitment to boost tourism and trade between the Philippines and Japan," said Candice Iyog, Vice President of Marketing & Distribution. "This is great news on Cebu Pacific's 5th year of operations in Japan."

Cebu Pacific remains optimistic about its prospects for expansion in Japan. The airline is planning to increase it schedule to Japan by up to eighty weekly round trip flights from its hubs in Cebu and Manila. The airline plans to expand beyond Osaka to serve a number of other Japanese cities including Nagoya, Ibaraki, Sapporo, Okinawa, Hiroshima, Fukuoka, Kansai, and Tokyo.

“The recently concluded air talks were very successful and will definitely pave the way for more direct linkages between the two countries. With more flights to the Philippines, we believe Japan can rival South Korea when it comes to foreign tourist arrivals,” Iyog said.

Cebu Pacific just launched its first ever long haul route between Manila and Dubai aboard its brand new Airbus A330-300 aircraft on October 7.
