According to the Philippine Inquirer, the aircraft is rumoured to be making an important delivery of massive equipment that could be power turbines for First Gen Corporation. Although officials from First Gen have confirmed that the aircraft was hired for a delivery flight, they would not specify what is being delivered.

The Antonov An-225 was designed as a strategic airlift cargo aircraft by the Antonov Design Bureau of the former Soviet Union. Only one aircraft was ever produced in 1988. Powered by six turbofan engines, it was originally intended for transporting the USSR's version of the Space Shuttle. The aircraft is officially the largest airplane in the world and the heaviest aircraft with a maximum take off weight of 640 tonnes. It boasts a wing span of 290 feet and has a total of 32 wheels to assist with the even distribution of weight. The cargo hold is 1,300 cubic meters - long enough to support the entire length of the Wright Brothers' first flight.

The single An-225 is operated by Ukrainian based Antonov Airlines carrying the civil registration UR-82060.

  6. Due to thunder strike Philippine power plant San Lorenzo lost one of two generators that were made by renewed Croatian electric company Končar. Because of this a lot of Philippine population is without electrical energy and Philippine power plant is in hurry to get a new generator. Končar made new 310 MVA generator in record time, slicing the deadline by over a month. Problem is, it weights 140 tons and to shipping it by sea would take another 45 days. That's why the insurer of Philippine power plant decided to hire Antonov airlines, transport company known for owning the biggest air plane in the world Antonov AN-225 which is capable of transporting weight up to 250 tons.

    1. The rent for all the transport cost $7million, it's not clear who paid it. Do anyone know if this transformer is rented, donated or bought?
