Philippines Airlines and Airbus Deploy Fourth Humanitarian Flight for Typhoon Haiyan

More than one month after the devastation caused by Typhoon Haiyan that left thousands of people homeless, many of the victims are still struggling to put their lives back together. Philippine Airlines has been at the centre of the relief efforts transporting goods, aid workers, and other relief supplies on board its flights.

The Airbus Corporate Foundation has been contributing to the relief efforts by coordinating the deployment of relief flights utilising Airbus Flight Test aircraft and newly delivered customer aircraft. Two of the three flights that have been deployed since the typhoon struck utilized newly built PAL aircraft scheduled for delivery to the Philippines. 

Last week, the Airbus Corporate Foundation deployed its fourth relief flight using a brand new Philippine Airlines A330-300 aircraft bound for Manila. With the help of its partners, Action Contre la Faim, Aviation Sans Frontières and Humedica, the PAL A330 was loaded with four doctors, one nurse, and 5.6 tonnes of medical supplies, food, water, and sanitation equipment. 

The aircraft departed from the Airbus factory in Toulouse, France on Friday, December 6 and arrived in Manila on the morning of Saturday. December 7 marking the third relief flight deployed from Airbus using a Philippine Airlines aircraft.  

"One month after typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines, the region is still in desperate need of food, water sanitation equipment, and medical aid," said Airbus President and CEO, Fabrice Brégier."The Airbus Corporate Foundation is working non-stop with its partners in order to support victims of natural disasters all over the world by facilitating the shipping of humanitarian goods, medical staff and equipment."
