Cebu Pacific: Flights to Israel on the Horizon

Cebu Pacific, the country's largest carrier, is planning to launch long-haul flights to Israel. The airline recently filed an application with the Civil Aeronautics Board requesting to be designated as the official Philippine carrier to Israel.

In its application, Cebu Pacific requested an allocation of seven flight frequencies between Manila and Tel Aviv. The application follows the successful conclusion of a new expanded air services agreement recently negotiated between the two countries. Under the new air agreement with Israel, airlines from each country are permitted to mount 21 weekly flights between any point in the Philippines and Israel. It remains unclear if Israeli carriers are planning to mount services to the Philippines in the near future.

Meanwhile, Philippine Airlines revealed in December that it was also seeking direct flights to Israel after Israeli officials demonstrated interest in having the carrier fly to the nation. Both countries are hoping that new flights will expand tourism and trade between the nations. Philippine Airlines submitted their application on December 9 to the Civil Aeronautics Board requesting 14 frequencies between Tel Aviv and Manila.

The Civil Aeronautics Board will be conducting a hearing on January 21 to finalize the results of both applications.
