In March 2014, a Spanish Air Force Airbus A310-304 landed at Daniel Z. Romualdez Airport in Tacloban City. The aircraft is one of two Airbus A310 aircraft in VIP configuration operated by the 45th Group of the Spanish Air Force based at Torrejon Air Base outside of Madrid.
The Spanish Air Force A310 VIP fleet is used to transport the King, President of Spain, high-ranking government officials, and other members of the Spanish Royal Family. King Juan Carlos of Spain always uses the military fleet of VIP aircraft whenever he travels.
This particular aircraft was carrying Jose Manuel Garcia-Margallo Y Marfil, the Spanish Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation. He was in the Philippines on a trade mission to explore possible business opportunities between the two nations. He arrived in Tacloban City to meet some of the victims of Typhoon Haiyan that have been generously supported by the Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation.

Travel Blogger Renz Bulseco was given the privilege of an exclusive tour of the King of Spain's aircraft by Captain Alberto Rodriguez Gonzalez. This aircraft was purchased by the Spanish Government in 2002. It is currently 23.5 years old having been first delivered to Air France in 1990 for commercial airline use. The Spanish Air Force is set to acquire a newer Airbus A330 aircraft that will replace the A310 as the official aircraft of the King and President of Spain.
Renz Bulseco did not expect that a call from Captain Alberto Rodriguez Gonzalez, the aircraft's pilot, would become the highlight of his day when he was offered a tour of the President of Spain's aircraft. "The captain called us from the control tower and offered a quick tour inside the Airbus A310," said Bulseco. "That was a nice gesture from the captain. He is such a nice person!"
"The interior was like a hotel, filled with intricately designed rooms with lush bedrooms and conference halls. It also had some seats at the back portion and had spacious leg room," said Bulseco. "It truly exceeded my expectations. The interior was stunning!"
