Food Tripping in the Philippines: Pinoy Pasalubong Favourites

Food-Tripping in the Nation’s Most Popular Destinations

As more and more carriers become competitive, it is us, the passengers, that are reaping the benefits of affordable domestic travel by air. To make our trip all the more worth it, we must make sure that we experience all that the city or province has to offer and that includes most especially their cuisine and delicacies.

Below are the destinations that the nation’s two leading carriers, Philippine Airlines and Cebu Pacific are servicing and some of the food that you should not miss to bring home as pasalubong---if you can resist not eating it all yourself.

Bacolod
Basco
Busuanga
Butuan

Butuan City itself is not really known for any "homegrown" food delicacies or presents,” laments its government. I have been there myself and was not encouraged to buy anything specially Butuan even by the people there. Although I did have the best tasting and most refreshing lemongrass juice at Almont Inland Resort.

Cagayan de Oro
Catarman
Caticlan
Cebu
Cauayan

Davao
Dumaguete

General Santos
Iloilo
Kalibo
Laoag
Legazpi & Naga
Masbate
Ozamiz
Pagadian
Puerto Princesa
Roxas
Siargao

Surigao
Tacloban
Tandag

Tagbilaran
Tuguegarao
Virac
Zamboanga
Writer's Note: This list is certainly not exhaustive but it can get the traveler started on a great food-trip with plenty of pasalubong ideas. It is important to note that this list is not representative of the best foods found around the Philippines either. As the topic of food is always subjective and dynamic, better choices can easily be overlooked. In such cases, the reader is encouraged to add his or her suggestions in the comment fields.

  2. Great post! Very helpful. For Bacolod, I also would like to add a type of puff-pastry treat called napoleones (http://bongbongspiaya.com/blog/top-three-foods-from-bongbong-s-that-you-can-prepare-for-small-gatherings). It's available at bongbong's piaya, a pasalubong store in Bacolod City.
