According to the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines, passengers aboard the flight were injured as a result of what is known as "clear air turbulence." As the turbulence cannot be associated with a cloud, it is difficult to detect it visually or by using weather radar. Consequently, there is rarely any time to warn or prepare crew and passengers. Three children and two crew members were among those injured aboard the flight.

Qatar Airways Flight QR932 requested priority landing as the aircraft was 30 miles outside of Manila on a bumpy descent into Ninoy Aquino International Airport. The Boeing 777-300ER aircraft was able to land safely and taxi to NAIA Terminal 1, where passengers that had suffered minor injuries were treated immediately by airport medical staff.

According to reports, the majority of those hurt were not wearing seat belts at the time of the incident. This story serves as a reminder to all passengers to keep their seatbelts securely fastened at all times while seated, even if the fasten seatbelt sign is switched off.
