Cebu Pacific to Launch Guam Flights in March 2016

Competition between Manila and Guam is set to intensify as Cebu Pacific prepares to launch its very first route to the United States. According to the Pacific News Centre, Cebu Pacific, the nation's largest low cost carrier, is planning to launch flights to the US territory on March 15, 2016.

The budget carrier has been planning its entry into the US market for quite some time. Cebu Pacific had originally planned flights to Guam before the end of 2015 pending regulatory approvals. But according to a spokesperson of the Guam International Airport Authority, Rolenda Faasuamalie, Cebu Pacific will launch flights between Manila and Guam in March of 2016.

Faasuamalie indicated that the inaugural flight was set for March 15 with Cebu Pacific offering four flights weekly aboard an Airbus A320 aircraft. She added that a Cebu Pacific team is planning to travel to Guam in the near future to conduct an inspection of facilities and search for office spaces.

Filipinos residing in Guam have been eagerly anticipating the entry of Cebu Pacific, which will provide much needed competition for Philippine Airlines and United Airlines. Residents of the island territory are hoping that Cebu Pacific will be able to stimulate the market with its low airfares increasing tourism to Guam and enabling Filipinos to return home for visits more frequently.

At present, there are approximately 50,000 Filipinos living on the island of Guam, comprising nearly 26 percent of the entire population. Filipinos make up the second largest ethnic group on the island. Round-trip airfares for the four hour flight between Manila and Guam typically average US $300. The entry of Cebu Pacific could see airfares drop anywhere from ten to thirty-five percent.

Last year, Cebu Pacific was cleared by the US Department of Transportation to operate flights to the United States. While it is no secret that Cebu Pacific is eager to enter the US market, Guam has a unique advantage over other US destinations given its close proximity to the Philippines, which puts it within range of Cebu Pacific's A320 fleet.

As the Cebu Pacific fleet is composed primarily of A320 aircraft, the budget carrier has much greater flexibility in launching flights at the earliest possible opportunity, making Guam Cebu Pacific's first US destination.

  1. No no no. Cebu Pathetic needs to stay off the USA. If you were are not brainless, stick to flying with the best of the best airlines. As for Guam? I've already been there for a business meeting. Flown with United Airlines and they provide good service.

I don't even know why you brainless idiots want to fly with Cebu Pathetic. What difference does it make?

Why would I work for this dumb shit of an airline? If I worked for them, they would spill drinks on my Tuxedo like they did on my first flight last year.

Never had problems with UA. I've flown with them numerous times to the USA.

  2. United Airlines serves Manila to Guam. By flying UAL you will be on an airplane that is maintained and serviced to manufacturer and FAA standards. Flight crews hold US Airline Transport Ratings and receive the best training offered in the world.

Also, once in Guam UAL flies to Hawaii and the mainland US to several destinations.

Once CP lands in Guam they will be under scrutiny of the US FAA. We'll see how long that last.

    1. I don't care if Cebu Pathetic sends me a free ticket for HKG-MNL-GUM. Their services are terrible. "Vakla ka ba"? Is your letter B on your keyboard broken? You must be that little bakla bitch from an old article.

    2. Please refrain from using harsh words and just be a gentleman. Don't act like a jerk. And talk to us filipinos as brainless. Are you genious to point finget at us like that. I am a Filipino and I am proud of it. Don't generalize a nation just because of one petty experience you had. Be nice and people will act nice back at you.

  6. I really cannot figure out why CebuPac can fly to Riyadh with its A330s and unable to start a MNL/HNL flight at any time? The Pinoys are there, the stingy Ilocanos are there, why not do something now before they patronize all those Chinese and Korean carriers offering the lowest of all fares just to cement their market base? Come on Mr. Reyes of Cebu Pac!

    1. Oceanic ETOPS flying is way different than flying west bound to the Middle East. CP has a pathetic ETOPS program and like most of their other programs, poorly managed.

    2. No me importa, hombre! Problima na ni Reyes ng CebuPak iyan, kung hindi, sisante siya ng Gokongwei family!!!!!

    3. Flying to the Middle East is also categorized as Oceanic ETOPS because flights always pass over South China Sea and Indian Ocean before reaching Riyadh or UAE. I should know, I flew that route five years in a row! Please be consistent as not all of your readers are "innocents".

    4. CP's ETOPS program is a total mess and poorly managed. Any other Civil Aviation Authority wouldn't dare approve or allow them to maintain such a shoddy program. Just wait for the first time a CP flight actually has to make a diversion and it will come out just how pathetic it is.

    5. Sorry guys but it is known as EDTO now, but you can use ETOPS if you wish. If CP Ops is shoddy as you would call it, why do you think it has been approved for 180 mins by CAAP?

      Delete
    6. CAAP is one of the worst Civil Aviation Authorities in the world. Most of it's employees are untrained and unqualified. And with most things Filipino, pay off the right people and get what you want. No standards required or needed.

    7. Flying from Manila to the Middle East is not considered Oceanic ETOPS. While you may want to believe that (or your pathetic training department teaches it that way) it is not. Just proves the point of how clueless Philippine air carriers are.

      Delete
    8. Ok we have a Mr.-know-it-all. Do you even know what ETOPS is? Do you know the difference between 90-120-180 ETOPS? What is this Oceanic ETOPS you speak of? THIS PROVES how some wannabees are what they are....WANNABEES.

  8. If Ceb enters Guam, competition increases, and prices will decrease ... you can still fly on United for a more affordable fare. And you know, what flight attendants always say "you have a choice when you fly" ... and you don't have to choose Cebu if you don't want to.

  10. Will see. they been saying this for years now . i am in guam and really appreciate the extra flight. if 5J can offer less than 5 K pesos from singapore to mnl then they can offer the same to their MNL -GUM route. Same distance.

  12. Hope Cebu Pacific also will consider a DIRECT flight to Guam from its Mactan,Cebu hub to corner the vismin market without going all through Manila to catch the flight and its horrible delays.

  13. You cannot compare PAL and Cebu a Pacific as they have different business model. As I can see it, it is PAL that is competing with Cebu Pacific not the other way around. It is your choice which Airline to fly and it depends how deep are your pockets.
