The new Shanghai-Manila route is part of an effort by China Eastern to strengthen its network in Southeast Asia. The new daily service will be operated using an Airbus A320 aircraft featuring 150 seats in economy and 8 seats in business class.

It was announced last April that the Shanghai based airline had been granted a temporary operating permit by the Civil Aeronautics Board to operate in the Philippines for a period of one year. China Eastern will qualify for a Foreign Air Carriers Permit that is renewable every five years following completion of additional documentation.

The flight will depart Shanghai at 11:55pm arriving in Manila at 3:40am. The return flight back to China will depart Manila at 4:55am arriving in Shanghai at 8:15am.

China Eastern is one of three major airlines in mainland China with a fleet of more than 430 aircraft. It serves nearly 80 million passengers each year ranking it as one of the top airlines in the world by passenger volume. China Eastern is a member of the SkyTeam airline alliance.
