TigerAir Launching Kalibo-Shenzhen Flights
Following the launch of its newest international route between Manila and Phuket, TigerAir Philippines has announced that it will be expanding operations from Kalibo with a new direct flight to Shenzhen beginning in November.
TigerAir pioneered the first direct flight between Kalibo and Singapore earlier this year in July. With the successful launch of the new flights between Manila and Phuket in September, the airline is now revisiting its operations at Kalibo to take advantage of the growing demand and popularity of Boracay Island as Asia's premier beach destination.
"After Phuket, we will fly to Shenzhen from Manila sometime in November this year," said Olive Ramos, President of TigerAir. The airline is also planning new services to Japan, South Korea, and Macau. "We want to mount daily flights to Tokyo, Osaka, Nagoya, and Fukuoka. For South Korea, we want to fly to Incheon and Busan out of Manila and Cebu," added Ramos.
TigerAir currently operates a fleet of five Airbus aircraft. In order to satisfy capacity to operate the new international routes, TigerAir is planning to purchase via lease agreement an additional three new Airbus A320 aircraft next year bringing the total fleet up to eight aircraft.
Meanwhile, Ramos indicates that the new Phuket route launched in September has been "a great contributor to our revenues." The airline is targeting the younger generation, senior citizens, and entrepreneurs interested in business-process outsourcing. "The fare for the Manila-Phuket route is less than one-third of the regular fare so we are confident that many will choose TigerAir," said Ramos. TigerAir currently flies twice per week between Manila and Phuket every Tuesday and Saturday. The return flight back to Manila departs the following day.
