According to the Department of Transportation and Communications, five foreign carriers will be moving to NAIA Terminal 3 in August. These carriers include Cathay Pacific, Singapore Airlines, Emirates, KLM, and Delta Airlines. The move will bring the number of foreign carriers operating out of NAIA Terminal 3 up to six with the inclusion of All Nippon Airways that has been operating in the terminal for several years already.

The process of shifting operations to Terminal 3 is not as easy as most passengers would think as new offices and premium passenger lounges will need to be constructed. The on-going rehabilitation efforts at Terminal 3 are currently more than sixty percent complete with the entire project expected to be completed in July ahead of the original target month of August.

The rehabilitation project includes flight information displays, baggage handling, computer terminals, gate coordination, and fire protection systems. The addition of these new systems is expected to enhance the passenger experience enabling travellers to be processed faster, while also enabling the terminal to operate at its maximum capacity.

By enabling Terminal 3 to be utilised to its full potential, it is hoped that Terminal 1 will be able to restore operations back to its design capacity of 4.5 million passengers annually. Terminal 1 is currently undergoing its own restoration and rehabilitation. In the last few years, the ageing terminal has well exceeded its design capacity accommodating as many as eight million passengers per year. The rehabilitation of Terminal 1 is due for completion in January.

The Department of Transportation and Communications is currently evaluating the possibility of constructing a new international airport scheduled for completion in 2027. The new airport would be developed alongside Ninoy Aquino International Airport and Clark International Airport to support the rapidly rising number of travellers passing through the Greater Capital Region. In 2012, the number of passengers travelling through Manila was 31.88 million. However, this number is expected to rise to 106.7 million by 2040.

  1. Comment for last part of the article:
But what about International Airport on Sangley Point at Cavite? Is there any plan for Sangley Point?
What we need more is Sangley Point than Clark. Clark International Airport has a very poor master plan, that is, the new and big terminal will be dedicated to LCC, while the non-LCC will act as a "sardines" as they will use the main terminal which is much smaller than NAIA terminal 1.

    1. Sangley Point is an Air Force Base, not an intl airport

    2. What I am trying to say is the future international airport to be built on Sangley Point, I don't say that Sangley Point is now an international airport.

    3. I agree, Sangley Point is the most viable option if government wants to fast track the construction of a new international airport which, by the way, is long over due.

  3. Terminal 3 is already a toilet. I was there this past week and had to do several flights. The bathrooms are horrible, the a/c barely works, none of the monitors work and it is already overcrowded with Cebu Pacific planes. Then when you are finally done, you have to wait 2 1/2 hours for a taxi!
