Cebu Pacific and Tigerair Create Largest Network of Flights from the Philippines to Asia

Cebu Pacific and Singapore based Tigerair have signed an interline agreement creating the largest network of flights from the Philippines to the Asia Pacific region. The new agreement forms part of a strategic alliance that was launched when Cebu Pacific purchased 100 percent control of Tigerair Philippines earlier this year.

The interline agreement is expected to enable both carriers to leverage their strengths in order to enhance network coverage and jointly market routes. The initial interline flights will be available on the Tigerair website from July 23 onwards, while interline flights will be made available on the Cebu Pacific website starting in September.

According to Cebu Pacific President Lance Gokongwei, the agreement came into effect on July 22 as both carriers began selling each other's respective flights on select routes. "Together with Tigerair, we are proud to offer the largest, most extensive low cost network to and from the Philippines," said Gokongwei. "Tigerair's network reinforces Cebu Pacific's strong presence in Asia and expands our network with new destinations."

The addition of Tigerair's network to Cebu Pacific's extensive network in Asia will extend coverage to new destinations in Australia, Bangladesh, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand, and the Maldives. Travellers will now enjoy a seamless connection process between the two carriers including a one-stop ticketing process for connecting flights and baggage check-in. Flights from both carriers will be made available on a single itinerary, that will also enhance connectivity between the two carriers opening new connecting flight opportunities within the Middle East and Asia Pacific.

The interline agreement will provide customers of Tigerair with access to a wider network enabling travellers from Southeast Asia to visit 34 cities in the Philippines, Korea, and Japan via Cebu Pacific's network with convenient connections from Terminal 3 at Ninoy Aquino International Airport. Customers of Cebu Pacific in the Philippines will now be able to access Tigerair's destinations in China, India, and Australia (via Perth) with convenient connections at Singapore's Changi Airport, voted Best Airport in the World for several consecutive years.

According to Tigerair's Chief Operating Officer Ho Yuen Sang, the new agreement will benefit customers the most with greater convenience and access to even more destinations. "The interline arrangement harnesses the strengths and networks of Tigerair and Cebu Pacific," said Sang. "We look forward to offering greater convenience to customers with the increased flight frequencies, enlarged network, and more seamless options for both business and leisure travel."

  1. I'm seeing a lot of good news from CEB. This kind of agreement is far better than codeshare agreements.
