PAL's North American Routes Face More Adjustments
The latest airline timetables reveal that Philippine Airlines (PAL) will be making further adjustments to its North American schedules starting in September. According to a bulletin from Airlineroute.net, PAL will be making changes in aircraft deployment and the frequency of flights serving Vancouver, Toronto, and New York.

Philippine Flight Network reported yesterday that Philippine Airlines will be reducing the number of weekly flights to Vancouver. Flights PR116 and PR117 will no longer fly between Manila and Vancouver effective March 16, 2016. However, the latest schedule also reveals that from October 25, 2015, PR116/117 will be operated by the Airbus A340-300 (A343), rather than the Boeing 777-300ER (77W) until the flights get cancelled in March 2016.
Currently, PR116 and PR117 operate every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday. PR116 departs Manila at 7 pm and arrives in Vancouver at 4:15pm. The return leg, PR117, departs Vancouver at 11:45 pm and arrives back in Manila at 4:35am. When the A340 takes over the flights at the end of October, the departure and arrival times will adjust slightly.

Meanwhile, flights to Toronto will be reduced to just three weekly flights beginning in September. PR118 and PR119 will operate only three times a week between Manila-Vancouver-Toronto after September 7. The three weekly flights will now operate on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The Boeing 777 will continue to operate these flights. Passengers that wish to fly to Toronto on other days of the week will have the option of flying with Philippine Airlines to Vancouver and transferring to a connecting flight operated by WestJet Airlines. PAL maintains code share agreements with WestJet, which allow PAL passengers to connect to other Canadian cities including Toronto.
Passengers embarking from New York will be receiving an upgrade at the end of October. Effective October 25, 2015, Philippine Airlines will be upgrading its four weekly flights from Manila to New York via Vancouver to a Boeing 777 aircraft. The frequencies will remain unchanged at four weekly flights.

The reduction of flights to Vancouver will begin just one day after Philippine Airlines launches a new Cebu-Los Angeles route. The Airbus A340-300 will be utilized on these flights. As Airlineroute.net reported, the reduction of Vancouver flights is due to fleet redeployment. However, it is widely believed that the upcoming Cebu-Los Angeles service is the direct beneficiary of the Vancouver service reductions.
Philippine Airlines is keen to remove the A340 aircraft from its fleet as soon as possible. They are considering replacements such as the Airbus A350 and Boeing 787. But given the popularity of these two aircraft, it could take several years before PAL gets to the front of either manufacturer's queue to receive its share of orders. However, PAL will also receive two Boeing 777 aircraft starting next year.

ReplyDeleteFYI: Manila to Toronto will reduce to 3x weekly from September 7, but will again increase to 4x weekly from October 26, all flights via Vancouver. So, from October 26 onwards, Manila - Vancouver will be 8x weekly (with 2 flights on Sundays--one continuing to Toronto and another going to New York City.)
ReplyDeleteAm working at Pearson Int'l Airport Terminal 3 and i was impressed how EVA Airways Excel in in Canada with Less Taiwanese population living in Toronto with a non stop flight from YYZ-TPE-YYZ...that they have most of Filipino Passengers flying with them instead of choosing Philippine Airlines...but for PR slowly they are now picking up passengers too...with counter checkin lines are now longer than before..
